Use to Break Concrete Walls, Slabs, Floors, Foundations, Bridges, Dams, and All Types of Rock
How the Hydraulic Splitter Works
Forced expansion inside the material to be broken
causes tensions in rock or concrete. Once tension increases
beyond the tensile strength of the material, a split will form.
The hydraulic cylinder contains one sliding plug and
two feathers. The unit is inserted into a predrilled hole with
the plug in a retracted position. As the plug advances, the two
feathers are pushed aside until the material is broken apart.

The entire action of the cylinder is controlled by a
single lever on the top of the cylinder. The plug can be
advanced, retracted, or maintained in any position.
Controlled Demolition Splitting
Hundreds of contractors now use the hydraulic
splitting method for demolition of both concrete and rock. Many
contractors have reported great savings in time and money using this
new method.
The hydraulic method has many advantages including
less noise, no shocks or vibrations. It eliminates blasting
hazards, yet has over 700,000 lbs. of splitting force. Engineered
for heavy duty work, the tools are very efficient and require little
maintenance. Some units are still in operation after ten years of
use.
The cylinder together with the power unit is easily
portable and can be transported from job to job in the trunk of a car.
Recommended Applications
The hydraulic splitter has been designed to break
large pieces many times faster than a paving breaker. Removing
large chunks increases your production, saves time, reduces
costs. Contractors use this hydraulic unit to break concrete
walls, slabs, floors, foundations, bridges, dams, and all types or
rock.. Excellent in reinforced concrete.
- Trench rock and boulders below grade can be broken with one or
more hydraulic splitters. Hydraulic splitting eliminates dangers
associated with blasting. These hydraulic splitters will also
operate underwater without any modifications.
- The splitter was used to remove the ends from these overpass
supports and form a keyway. The hydraulic splitter broke the
reinforced concrete wide
enough to permit the cutting of the
rods. Note the large chunks removed with several breaks. This method was less expensive than sawing or chipping the supports.
- Boulders of any size and shape are easily split into small pieces
with a hydraulic splitter. Rock near structures or roads can be
quickly and safely broken and removed without shocks and vibrations.
- The hydraulic splitter can increase demolition production because
the breaks can be sized to meet your removal equipment. Many
times more production than jackhammers. The compact, portable
power unit is easily moved to any job site.
- Hydraulic splitters are excellent for breaking the bond between
rebar in both light and heavy reinforced concrete. Cracks can be
enlarged to cut the rods. Presplitting reduces many hours of
chipping work. A published booklet describes the details of this
operation.
Controlled Breaking Increases Production

Controlled Breaking
Pieces as large as your equipment can handle (see photo) are quickly
broken for removal. Contractors using the splitting method can
increase production and reduce the cost of demolition work. Years
of research and use on hundreds of job sites throughout the world has
proved the splitter to be one of the most practical pieces of equipment
for the demolition of concrete and rock.

Impact Breaking
Paving breakers and large tracter mounted impact rams are limited to
breaking rock and concrete into small pieces. Demolition by noisy
impact methods requires more energy, more time and is usually more
expensive. In comparison, the smooth operation of a hydraulic
splitter quickly and almost silently breaks large chunks without shocks
or vibrations. Direction of breaks is easily controlled so pieces
can be cut to desired size.

The No. 5 Cylinder is recommended for most demolition work (rock and concrete) and operates at 7100 P.S.I. A complete operating unit consists of a cylinder, 30 Ft. high and low pressure hydraulic hoses, quick connect couplings, hydraulic pump and lubricant.
